Steffan Gadnell

My great interest has always been drawing, watercolor painting, photography and film. Even as a little boy, I started to explore the world of creation when my father bought a Super 8 camera. I made animated films with puppets and drawings, including a short film about Link who went fishing. The film came to an abrupt end when a large fish ate the happy fisherman – a story I still remember with warmth and laughter.

I have a background in art history and art school in Umeå and trained as a drawing teacher, a career choice that fit perfectly with my creative interests. For several years I worked as an art teacher in Linköping and Uppsala before my wife Margaretha and I started a guesthouse in Malta in 2010. There I also held courses in drawing and watercolor, something I really appreciated during our years at “Blå Dörren.”

Today I am an artist with a special love for watercolor painting. One of my favorite subjects is Stockholm, this fantastically beautiful city, whose beauty and character I often capture in my paintings. Capturing the light in my watercolors is a central part of my expression, and I always strive to give my works a sense of atmosphere and life.
