There is nothing more difficult than simplicity, clarity, and purity.
Woo-Bock Lee’s meditative and sensitive images show that the simplest details can offer us unexpected depths, allowing us to better understand ourselves and the world we live in.
Life is a transit hall, where we all pass through in a flash, carrying our memories, magical histories, experiences, dreams, and the treasures we search for far away, only to find them at our doorstep.
Woo-Bock Lee creates reliefs and freestanding objects from steel wire mesh, onto which she glues book pages inscribed with Chinese characters in multiple layers. The result is a symbiosis of painting, sculpture, and craftsmanship.
She also cuts the book pages into strips and twists them into threads, which she then weaves into the steel wire mesh.
This technique originates from a Korean method called chiseung.
She creates with ease, but through time-consuming processes, aiming above all to convey to the viewer: harmony.
